In chemical industry and materials, industrials have the ambition to develop new products to address today’s society challenges such as clean energy production. To accelerate innovation, the development of new techniques to monitor in-situ physical-chemical phenomena involved in our process is important. The Thermal Imaging Field Characterisation group at I2M, we are developing a new approach coupling thermal and infrared spectroscopy (IR) imaging to identify fields of temperatures and concentrations of chemical species in complex systems.
The aim of this internship is to use this approach to study the mass and heat transport phenomena at the microscale in microfluidic chips. A model acid/base reaction will be used and fully characterized by mean of numerical inverse methods which are already developed. The final goal of the internship is to produce all the materials needed for a scientific publication where the intern will be associated in case of success
Description de la mission
The candidate will take charge of the set-up and conduct a thorough calibration of all the experimental parts (camera and IR sources)
Then, he will use the set up to measure and characterize heat and mass transport in an acid/base reaction in a microfluidic chip.
The candidate will actively participate to the working methodology to try to solve the technological issues
The candidate will be sensitive to the safety rules used in the laboratory during the internship.
The candidate will process the large amount of data produced by the experiments
The candidate will apply inverse methods to estimate heat and mass transport diffusivity of the fluids in the system.
Durée du stage
From March to July/August
Bac+5 with scientific skills in materials science, heat and mass transfer science. A taste of experimental researches is a must, and knowledge in numerical treatment of data would be appreciated
Heat and mass transfer, spectroscopy, optics, materials science, inquiring mind, active and rigorous. Strong feeling with experimental works is required. Knowledge of Matlab
