Xyloplate contributes to research on advanced wood engineering. It aims to develop knowledge and know-how concerning the mechanical characterization of wood and derived products.

Activity : 

Non-destructive evaluation of mechanical properties

The scientific objectives involved in this program are mechanical tests and non-destructive evaluation of the mechanical properties of wood products.

The equipment planned for this TF will have the particularity of treating large wood. They represent useful and complementary tools for developing research for large scales, which are mainly limited by testing machines currently used in materials engineering.

Equipment: wood / Xyloclass T testing machine

Investigation of the reliability of structural components

Due to the consideration of heterogeneities in wood products, a large set of data is needed.

The use of an automatic bending test machine will greatly facilitate the acquisition of large databases of mechanical properties of wood.

Characterize the effect of heterogeneity on the overall behavior of structural components

Measurement of the deformation or displacement field will be carried out by interferometric method to detect material defects due to fiber deformation and anisotropy in real size samples.

Equipment: displacement sensor / thermal vision camera -> Image Correlation Equipment and Tracking Equipment

The collage of the wood

The development of composites involves developing techniques and approaches to wood bonding.

Image correlation techniques represent an interesting potential and combined with numerical simulations can determine membership models and quality control plans in the industry. The mechanical performance of wood and the corresponding composites must also be studied taking into account the temperature and the evolution moisture content.
