Energy, Fluids and Transfers

The department TREFLE gathers most of the activity in the fields of fluid mechanics and transfers within the Bordeaux Institute for Mechanics and Engineering

Department presentation and research

The common feature of the TREFLE department is the study of heterogeneous media and systems in the fields of fluid mechanics and transfers. These studies are balanced between numerical and experimental approaches. The aim is to bring new and innovative ideas in scientific and applications approaches.

Topics include:

  • Modeling and numerical simulations of complex flows and systems,
  • Development of physical models for the study of transport in porous media,
  • Thermal characterization at different scales (spatial, temporal and spectral),
  • Storage of heat energy at high and low temperatures,

In these fields, TREFLE department has implications in Labex Amadeus (Materials), Laphia (Optics) and Sysnum (digital computing) and is in interaction with chemistry, optics and mathematics researchers from the Bordeaux campus. Moreover, TREFLE is connected as well in thermal transfer and fluid mechanics to the network “Arts et Métiers” schools and laboratories.

The scientific activity is structured into five thematic groups (GTs). These groups constitute a diversity of skills, in which actors share a common culture and methods.
